Instructor/Lecturer

South Dakota State University is offering an exciting career opportunity to join the College of Nursing as an Instructor/Lecturer. This position will serve as the Nurse Midwife Faculty and Director of the new midwifery program. This position will be located in either Brookings, Sioux Falls, or Rapid City. This position is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

The college's fully accredited Healthcare Simulation Center encompassing all three sites is further evidence of our commitment to high quality education for all students.

Key Responsibilities

Lead accreditation activities, such as self-studies; annual reports; site visit preparation and follow-up (done in collaboration with Associate Dean for Academic Programs). Monitor compliance with accreditation standards. Track program outcomes such as graduation rates, certification exam pass rates, employment outcomes. Facilitate faculty meetings and committee work. Oversee clinical experiences- assist in securing clinical placements; selection and orientation of clinical preceptors.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A completed Master's degree by date of application
  • Licensed by the South Dakota Board of Nursing or eligible for licensure as an APRN as evidenced by current licensure in another state
  • Nationally certified as a Nurse Midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board, or other appropriate certifying body
  • Minimum of two years as practicing as a midwife
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned Doctoral degree
  • Evidence of professional service
  • Formal teaching experience in nursing
  • Demonstrated evidence of potential for scholarly activity
  • Experience in publishing extension materials and peer reviewed journals
