Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 2 trauma center, requiring an SD or compact RN license and at least 2 years of ED experience.

Details
  • Work in a 33-bed Main Emergency Department, including 8 Trauma/Resuscitation beds and a 4-room Behavioral Health pod
  • Additional vertical care area used for ESI 3-4 patients or as overflow high-acuity pods
  • See approximately 150-180 patients daily across all age groups from neonates to geriatric
  • Level 2 trauma center with a heavy trauma population including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls, especially busy in summer
  • Complete Stroke Center caring for stroke patients up to 24 hours
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill children
  • Cardiac patient population with on-site cardiac catheter lab
  • RNs responsible for triage using ESI assessments and prioritization of care
  • RNs rotate with permanent staff on Sexual Assault patient care, including evidence collection with support from a 24/7 SA Quality Coordinator
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4-5
  • ED Tech to patient ratio of 1:10
  • Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
  • 12-hour variable shifts including , , , , and
  • 36 hours per week with potential for every weekend depending on staffing needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only, not to take a full assignment
  • ICU RNs may float to ED and PCU RNs may float to ICU if applicable experience is present
Requirements
  • Active RN license (SD or compact) required
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, excluding travel experience
  • LPNs require 2 years of experience in an acute care setting such as Medical, Behavioral Health, or PCU
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS for RNs
  • LPN required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and PALS
  • CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable performing Sexual Assault evidence collection duties, including buccal swabs, fingernail scraping, clothing collection, and victim interviews
Additional Information
  • Provide emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities and conditions, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, and GI bleeds requiring emergent blood products
  • Collaborate with a full support team including ED Techs, Lead Tech, Charge Nurses, 24/7 physician and NP coverage, Respiratory Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy Tech, and Security
  • 24/7 phlebotomy support available on the unit
  • Orientation includes 8 hours of facility-based NEO plus 4 hours of ED-specific education and a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit
  • Scrubs are provided and free parking is available
  • Holiday coverage only required if needed
  • Time off requests require manager approval, with no requests considered during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Travelers must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility to be eligible
  • Permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
