American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 2 Trauma Emergency Department position requiring 2+ years of ED experience and 12-hour night shifts.
Details- Level 2 Trauma Center Emergency Department seeing 150-180 patients daily
- Main ED has 33 beds including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds and a behavioral health pod
- Vertical care area used for lower acuity ESI 3/4 patients or as additional high-acuity pods as needed
- Cares for neonatal through geriatric patients with conditions ranging from minor to critical, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, and GI bleeds
- Heavy trauma population including stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls, especially during summer months
- Complete Stroke Center capable of managing stroke symptoms up to 24 hours
- Sexual assault patient care in rotation with permanent staff, including evidence collection (not pelvic exams), with 24/7 support from a SA Quality Coordinator
- Pediatric ICU-level care provided for critically ill children
- Cardiac patient care supported by an on-site cardiac catheter lab
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-5

- 36 hours per week with potential for every weekend depending on staffing needs
- No on-call requirements
- Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
- May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas as a task nurse within scope of practice
- Active RN license (SD or Compact) currently in hand
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience, excluding travel experience, preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
- CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
- Completion of an accredited nursing education program
- Strong ESI triage assessment skills and critical thinking to prioritize patient care
- Comfortable performing sexual assault evidence collection responsibilities
- ICU RN experience qualifies for float assignments to ED
- PCU RN experience qualifies for float assignments to ICU
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Provide comprehensive emergency care across all patient acuity levels and age groups
- Perform ESI assessments during triage to determine patient prioritization
- Collaborate with a full support team including ED techs, charge nurses, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physicians, NPs, radiology, and pharmacy techs
- Orientation includes 8 hours of facility NEO plus 4 hours of ED-specific education and a minimum of 2-3 twelve-hour shifts on the unit
- May be expected to precept nursing students
- Navy scrub color required

- Holiday coverage only required if needed
- Time off requests require manager approval, with no requests considered during the first 3 weeks of August due to the annual Sturgis Bike Rally
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates must live more than 100 miles from any Monument facility to be eligible
- Former permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler
