Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 1+ years of PCU/Tele experience, ACLS/BLS certification, and a South Dakota or compact RN license.

Details
  • 56-bed Progressive Care Unit in a hospital setting
  • Cares for adult patients with diagnoses including CHF, ARF, hepatitis, ESLD, DM, DKA, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleed, syncope, chest pain, pulmonary emboli, respiratory failure, COPD, arrhythmias, seizure disorders, overdose, and delirium tremens
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 on PCU/Tele and 1:5 on Med/Surg for both day and night shifts
  • 12-hour day shifts with weekend rotation of every other or 50% weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule
  • Not scheduled for on-call hours but may be placed on call for low census situations
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday during the contract
  • Floating required to Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, ICU (based on experience), and Observation, in rotation with other travelers
  • Uses Epic (preferred), Alaris, and Omnicell
  • Required to attend huddles prior to shift start at 0625 and 1825
Requirements
  • Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU or Tele nursing experience required (candidates with less than 1.5 years require manager approval)
  • Completion of an approved nursing education program required
  • Experience with cardiac and vasoactive drip titration preferred, including Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Levophed
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, blood product administration, CIWA protocol, drain/tube management, catheter insertion and management, insulin drip management, continuous bladder irrigation, and chest tube maintenance
  • Strong clinical judgment, physical assessment skills, and professional bedside manner required
  • Comfortable working in a team nursing model alongside LPNs with potential task swapping
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care including medication administration, drip titration, wound care, and clinical assessments
  • Unit supported by 24/7 charge nurses, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, respiratory therapy, in-house hospitalists, and centralized tele monitoring
  • Flex resource RN assists with admissions, discharges, transfers, and task items as staffing allows
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Monthly audits conducted for pre/post pain scoring with a 90% compliance requirement
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
  • Orientation includes 2 days of in-class/online education followed by two 12-hour preceptor shifts
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed, with contract extension required to maintain a full 13-week schedule
  • No time off approved during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally
  • First-time travelers with more than 2 years of experience will be considered
  • Previous permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
  • Free parking available on-site
