PCU Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled PCU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This nursing role offers flexibility with 36-48 beds in semi-private rooms as needed. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of nursing experience and must possess EPIC experience for first-time travelers.

Patient Care Responsibilities

The PCU Registered Nurse will provide care to a mixed patient population, including both Med/Surg and Intermediate Care patients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administer various medications (oral, IV, IM, and SQ) and manage titratable vasoactive drips.
  • Perform patient assessments and interpret telemetry readings.
  • Manage multiple types of IV access, including peripheral IVs, midline, PICC, and central lines.
  • Provide wound care and preventative skin care for patients.
  • Care for patients with a wide range of diagnoses, including DKA, surgical pre/post operative care, and respiratory diseases.
Patient Ratios
  • Long length of stay (Med Surg, NO Tele): 1 RN to 5-6 patients.
  • Med Surg/Telemetry (excludes IMC drips): 1 RN to 5 patients.
  • Intermediate Care: 1 RN to 4 patients.
Required Certifications and Qualifications
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications are required.
  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota.
  • Experience with patient management, including IMC/stepdown care, neuro patients, and ability to read/interpret cardiac strips.
Orientation and Support

New hires will undergo a structured orientation program that includes:

  • Two days of orientation for unit policies and procedures.
  • Classroom instructions with the Nursing Professional Development Team.
  • Two shifts on the unit with a preceptor.

The unit is supported by a CNA with a ratio of 1:8 and resources such as respiratory therapy and hospitalists available for additional support.

Scheduling and Expectations

Scheduling will be conducted in 6-week cycles, with a weekend rotation that could require working up to 4 weekends in a 6-week period. Time-off requests during peak seasons will be subject to approval, with specific blackout dates in August.
