Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) to join our team. This position involves providing exceptional nursing care to patients with diverse medical needs, including cardiac and vascular conditions.

General Information
  • Beds: 44
  • Minimum Experience:

    1.5 years of general nursing experience and 1 year in PCU
  • First-Time Traveler:
    Accepted with 2+ years of experience
  • Distance Requirements:
    Travelers must live 100 miles away from any facility
  • Permanent Staff:
    Must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
Patient Types

This is a mixed acuity unit that includes:

  • Intermediate Care acuity
  • Telemetry and Med Surg patients
  • Direct admits, ED admits, and post-cath lab patients
  • Conditions treated include MI, NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, and dysrhythmia management
Responsibilities
  • Provide care for post-cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath patients, and those who have undergone open heart surgery.
  • Manage patients requiring titratable cardiac and vasoactive medications.
  • Conduct cardiac rhythm interpretation and manage chest tubes.
  • Administer TNK and other relevant medications as prescribed.
Patient Ratios
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4, can be adjusted to 1:3 based on acuity
Required Certifications
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
Required Education

Completion of a nursing education program approved by the board of nursing; must possess an active Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Skills Required
  • Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG, TAVR, post-cardiac cath)
  • Knowledge of MI pharmacology and titratable medications
  • Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms
  • Chest tube management
  • Experience with heparin infusions and related treatments
Unit Support
  • CNA support with a patient ratio of 1:5-8 (depending on the shift)
  • Phlebotomy available for peripheral blood draws
  • Resource Nurse available occasionally
  • Tele tech overseeing cardiac monitoring
  • RT available 24/7
  • Hospitalist available on-site 24/7
Charting System/Equipment
  • Epic (experience preferred, please inform if lacking experience)
  • Alaris
  • Omnicell
Orientation

Orientation includes 2 partial days of education followed by 3 twelve-hour shifts on the unit.

Scheduling
  • Weekend rotation:
    Every other
  • Holiday expectations:
    Every other holiday
  • Time off approval:
    Up to 7 days, must extend for a full week off, and no time off during the first 3 weeks of August
