Correctional Officer

Pennington County is seeking a dedicated Correctional Officer to help maintain safety, security, and order within our correctional facility in Rapid City, South Dakota. In this role, you will supervise inmates, enforce facility rules, conduct counts and searches, and monitor housing units and movement throughout the jail. You will respond to emergencies, write clear incident reports, and work closely with a professional team committed to public service and community safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security within the correctional facility
• Supervise inmates and enforce facility rules and regulations
• Conduct head counts, inspections, and searches for contraband
• Monitor inmate movement, housing units, and recreational areas
• Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and medical situations
• Prepare incident reports and maintain accurate documentation
• Escort inmates to hearings, medical visits, and programs
• Communicate effectively with staff, inmates, and visitors
• Support rehabilitation and reentry programs as directed
• Follow established policies, procedures, and legal standards
