Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery R&D Co-Op

Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery (WCHB), a member of the Johnson & Johnson Med Tech Surgery organization. The Med Tech organization offers a broad range of products, platforms, and technologies, including sutures, topical skin adhesives, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices, and synthetic mesh devices used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures.

The Wound Closure & Healing and Biosurgery R&D organization in Raritan, NJ, is recruiting a R&D co-op for topical skin adhesive group to work on development of new topical skin adhesives for surgery applications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform hands-on laboratory work in chemistry and engineering labs.
  • Conduct studies and develop test methods and fixtures.
  • Follow good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and documenting meeting minutes.
  • Craft and evaluate prototypes.
  • Participate in voice-of-customer (VOC) labs.
  • Collaborate with engineers and external suppliers to support project-related activities.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Be enrolled (not necessarily taking classes) in an accredited college or university during the co-op session.
  • Students must have completed at least their freshman year.
  • Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the co-op session
  • Proficient in lab-based chemistry activities.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and possess strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Able to work individually and collaborate optimally within a team.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future need for employment visa sponsorship (e.g., H-1B).
  • Ability to provide your own transportation to the work location.

Preferred:

  • A minimum GPA of 3.4 is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry and characterization would be an asset.

Permanently authorized to work in the U.S., must not require sponsorship of an employment visa (e.g., H-1B or green card) at the time of application or in the future. Students currently on CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT usually requires future sponsorship for long term employment and do not meet the requirements for this program unless eligible for an alternative long-term status that does not require company sponsorship.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year;

for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension). For additional general information on Company benefits, please go to:
