About this Role
Fiber Tel is looking for an HDD Operator for our Rathdrum, .
A Successful HDD Operator is specially trained and has expertise in locating for horizontal/directional drill rigs and product support equipment. This individual will be primarily responsible for setup and completion of drilling variable sized underground bore holes and pulling back required pipe. As a Directional Driller/Equipment Operator, you are responsible for running a variety of directional drilling equipment;
Directional Drill, (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch) Vac. Truck, Mud Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Dump truck, Locator, along with others not listed.
Pay: $24-35/hr, DOE
What You'll DoResponsibilities:
All phases of telecommunication construction include but are not limited to:
Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment.
- Locate for Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground pipe.
- Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
- Operate Horizontal Directional Drill
- Assist in potholing and remediation.
- Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins.
- Ability to Read and Comprehend utility locates.
- Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine.
- Ability to properly formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions.
- Ability to perform proper reaming and pull back methods for existing conditions.
- Oversee laborers and/or crew members work and monitor time usage.
- Ability to properly clean and maintain the equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required reports, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment.
- Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs etc.)
- Follows specifications for the job and company policies.
- Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site.
- Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
- A good driving record is required.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders).
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
Willing and able to work in all weather conditions. - Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.
- Knowledge of established Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/Operator procedures and techniques
- Ability to perform Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/Operator procedures and duties.
- Ability to travel.
This is a full‑time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings.
This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels.
The employee will need to have the ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 12 hours at a time), tolerate work in extreme weather conditions, speak and hear worksite safety instructions, withstand prolonged and repeated: lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching and feeling, crouching, and crawling.
