Position OverviewThe Youth Counselor Technician (S) will provide transportation and supervision for juveniles to and from required destinations such as court hearings, detention centers, youth development centers, residential placement, medical appointments, and other authorized sites. The role also involves direct supervision and engagement at a Youth Development Center or Juvenile Detention Center.
Responsibilities- Transport and supervise court‑involved youth to and from required destinations.
- Monitor youth while in secure custody during court as requested and provide non‑secure transportation for youth when not in secure custody.
- Inspect vehicles regularly and maintain preventive service and inspection schedules for the vehicle fleet.
- Maintain transportation documents for all trips and monitor fuel, oil, and tire status daily.
- Conduct searches of vehicles for contraband before and after each trip.
- Perform additional duties as required by the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, including direct supervision and engagement at youth facilities.
- Associate degree from an accredited institution; OR high‑school or GED diploma and two years of related human services experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associate’s degree or equal experience provides credit toward the step pay plan.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a vehicle.
- Physical capability to restrain juveniles and defend self after training; physical demands will be discussed during interview.
- At least 20 years of age, U.S. citizen, and able to pass criminal background, drug screening, psychological, and sexual risk screening tests.
- Ability to communicate effectively in speaking and writing.
- Commitment to working weekends, holidays, and on a rotating schedule as required.
- Full‑time position (40 hours per week) with State benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance.
Salary is based on relevant qualifications and ranges from $31,200 to $54,397, increasing annually under a step pay plan.
