Are you looking for a career opportunity where you can make a difference in the health and safety of our furry friends? The City of Raymore has a great opportunity for an experienced Animal Control Officer.
Responsibilities- Conveys job-specific information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; adapts readily to changing goals, objectives, technical changes, and professional requirements; maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers, using listening and problem-solving skills as necessary; capable of handling multiple projects; self-starter and decision maker; communicates effectively (oral and written); understands and applies required general safety policies and techniques.
- Welcoming attitude towards innovation and creativity.
- Manage day-to-day care of animals; feeds animals, cleans cages and kennel areas; maintains shelter buildings and grounds; prepares animals for adoption; maintains all related documentation as required by law.
- Patrol city to locate and pick up stray animals; enforces animal-related laws and ordinances; assists animals in problem situations; captures domestic, wild, dangerous, or aggressive animals; sets animal traps; transports animals to shelters, veterinarian offices, or other locations; relocates displaced wildlife; assists law enforcement by removing live animals from accident scenes or crime scenes.
- Respond to incoming calls concerning animal issues (bites, cruelty/abuse, distress, stray/nuisance animals, barking dogs, wild/dangerous animals, sickness/injury, behavior problems, or other animal control laws); provide information and assistance; mediate/resolves citizen disputes; conduct investigations and follow-up as appropriate.
- Process captured animals; handle, lift, and restrain animals; check for signs of rabies or illness; quarantine exposed animals; assign and transport animals to kennels; prepare and maintain related documentation.
- Provide information and education to the public about responsible pet ownership, laws and ordinances, and pet adoption; assist with adoptions; collect money, issue receipts, and complete adoption forms.
- Maintain inventory of animal care supplies; ensure adequate supplies are available to complete work and care for animals; purchase or replace supplies as needed.
- Follow safety procedures, use safety equipment, and monitor the work environment to ensure safety of animals, employees, and others.
- Prepare or complete various forms, reports, correspondence, timesheets, kennel cards, incident reports, adoption or impound documents, licenses, compliance notices, or other documents.
- Receive and review forms, reports, correspondence, animal and veterinary records, incident reports, logs, court case paperwork, laws, codes, ordinances, manuals, and reference materials; process or retain as appropriate.
- Communicate with supervisor, City employees, police/fire personnel, other animal control agencies, veterinarians, the public, and others as needed to coordinate work activities and resolve problems.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; stay aware of new procedures and trends; attend conferences, workshops, and training as appropriate.
- Operate equipment related to animal control activities, including vehicle, restraint and immobilization tools, traps, computer/office equipment, and software as necessary.
At least one year of experience handling shelter animals, wildlife control, or animal control enforcement.
Required EducationTo be successful in this position, you will need to have a high school diploma or GED; valid driver's license and be at least 21 years of age. NACA certification required. Previous knowledge and experience of animal health and welfare.
