Meat Helper

Position Objective:
To assist customers in their shopping experience by receiving, cutting and serving meat product in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible. To provide our customers with quality smoked meats on a daily basis. This individual will also be responsible for receiving, stocking, packaging, and displaying meat products in the Meat Department and will assist customers both at the meat counter and with the smoked products.

Reporting Structure:
This position formally reports to the Meat Manager.

Status:
This is a non-exempt position.

Knowledge

Essential Knowledge

• Food handling permit obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
• Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on Cosentino’s Learning Plan.

Non-Essential Knowledge

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Skills

Essential Job Functions

• Follow all guidelines on proper techniques for cutting and preparing items for placement in display cases. Smoke various meats to be sold in the store.
• Monitor all product expiration dates and ensure all items are properly rotated.
• Monitor products for any damaged, unsaleable, or returnable items and follow proper procedures for damage claims.
• Accurately count and record merchandise as part of the inventory process.
• Quickly and accurately change shelf tags, price markers on displays, and label/price mark merchandise.
• Be knowledgeable about department items, procedures, and policies to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
• Assist customers at the counter by weighing, wrapping, and pricing selected items.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards to produce desired team and individual results.
• Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner and recognize when to involve store management.
• Know and implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
• Quickly unload and sort incoming shipments and neatly stock them without damaging merchandise.
• Neatly stock department shelves by matching item UPC codes to shelf tags and ensuring products front-facing for customers.
• Actively keep the work area and department clean and safe for customers and coworkers.
• Know, comply with, and encourage other team members to comply with all health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures for the store.
• Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and competently.
• Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
• Demonstrate basic math and reading skills required for the position.

Non-Essential Job Functions

• Promote new items and weekly specials through effective merchandising and creative displays.
• Closely monitor the department for potential security issues and report any concerns to a manager.
• Support the company by completing additional tasks identified by management, assisting other stores or departments as needed, and gaining new skills.

Physical Abilities

Essential Abilities

• Reach overhead with both arms up to 72 inches, twisting at the waist, and lift objects up to 20 lbs.
• Push and pull grocery items/carts as needed up to 40 lbs.
• Stand and walk for long periods on tile, asphalt, concrete or other hard surfaces.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
• Bend, squat, and crouch, sometimes to floor level.
• Work in colder conditions of grocery coolers and freezers.

Non-Essential Abilities

• Climb a ladder up to 5 ft.

Required

High School or better.

Preferred

• Smoking various types of meat.
• Working in a refrigerated environment.
