We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Distribution Center General Manager to lead all operations at our Raymore, Missouri distribution center. This position has overall responsibility for warehouse operations, including receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, picking, packing, quality control, shipping, staffing, safety, productivity, and employee development.
The ideal candidate is a strong operational leader who is highly visible on the warehouse floor, establishes clear expectations, holds teams accountable for results, and develops supervisors and employees to consistently achieve performance goals.
This individual will use operational data and key performance indicators to identify opportunities, solve problems, improve processes, and ensure orders are shipped accurately and on time.
Responsibilities- Provide overall leadership and direction for all distribution center operations, including receiving, inventory, order fulfillment, picking, packing, quality control, and shipping.
- Lead, develop, coach, and hold accountable warehouse supervisors, leads, and hourly employees.
- Maintain a strong presence on the distribution center floor and ensure established procedures and performance expectations are consistently followed.
- Establish, monitor, and improve key performance indicators (KPIs), including productivity, order accuracy, inventory accuracy, short picks, backlog, labor efficiency, and on-time shipping.
- Plan staffing and labor requirements based on order volume and operational needs, including scheduling, overtime, and temporary labor utilization.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements that increase productivity, accuracy, and throughput.
- Oversee inventory control processes and ensure inventory discrepancies and short picks are researched and resolved promptly.
- Manage automated order fulfillment processes and warehouse technology, including robotic/AMR-assisted picking systems.
- Utilize IBM i (AS400) and other warehouse systems to monitor orders, inventory, productivity, and operational performance.
- Ensure effective coordination between warehouse operations, Customer Service, Inventory, Sales, IT, and senior management.
- Oversee outbound shipping operations and relationships with parcel and freight carriers.
- Recruit, train, develop, and retain a productive and dependable distribution center team.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional working environment and ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and manage operating budgets and control labor and other distribution expenses.
- Take ownership of operational problems, identify root causes, and drive issues through resolution.
- Build and develop a strong distribution center leadership structure capable of supporting continued growth.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible distribution/warehouse management experience, including 3+ years leading supervisors or managers.
- Experience leading a high-volume distribution operation with multiple functional areas and a sizable hourly workforce.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing supervisors, leads, and hourly warehouse employees.
- Strong understanding of order fulfillment, inventory control, picking, packing, quality control, and shipping operations.
- Experience managing productivity, accuracy, labor efficiency, and other warehouse KPIs.
- Experience with IBM i (AS400) or similar ERP/WMS systems preferred.
- Experience with warehouse automation, robotics, AMRs, or other automated fulfillment technologies preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to identify operational problems, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement and process-improvement initiatives.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to use operational data to make decisions.
- Experience with labor planning, budgeting, and expense management.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume distribution environment.
This is a hands-on leadership position
. The successful candidate will be highly visible throughout the distribution center and comfortable moving between strategic management, employee leadership, performance management, and day-to-day operational problem solving.
