Mechanical Project Engineer, Design Engineering Quality

Are you a talented Mechanical Engineer with a passion for leading teams and delivering large-scale automated fulfillment solutions? We’re seeking a driven Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join our dynamic team, oversee complex projects, and play a pivotal role in transforming the future of Amazon’s logistics network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership and Oversight: oversee and direct comprehensive layouts for multiple automated material handling system projects; lead the selection and specification of conveyor types, third‑party equipment, and systems across projects; manage coordination with electrical, controls, and structural engineering teams; provide strategic direction and final approval on mechanical design decisions; allocate resources and assign projects to engineers based on complexity and development needs.
  • Stakeholder Management and Project Coordination: develop and manage mechanical engineering project plans, schedules, deliverables and ways of working across multiple projects; lead coordination with internal and external construction teams; maintain excellent communication with on‑site construction teams, clients, and senior leadership; make high‑level decisions to resolve complex field issues and project challenges; balance competing priorities and escalated engineering problems.
  • Team Development and Technical Leadership: directly manage and mentor junior engineers; oversee development of new engineers through mentorship programs; review and approve calculations and designs; set technical standards and best practices; lead technical problem‑solving for complex or novel design challenges; build team capabilities through training, feedback, and stretch assignments; conduct performance reviews and provide career development guidance.
  • Quality Assurance, Innovation and Continuous Improvement: ensure all mechanical designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards; implement quality control measures and design standards; identify opportunities to improve processes and drive innovation; capture and apply lessons learned; drive continuous improvement initiatives; represent the mechanical engineering team in strategic planning; enter and peer‑review orders for mechanical equipment.
  • Additional responsibilities: oversee translation of customer drawings and specifications into mechanical conveyor systems; lead optimization of designs within budget; direct 3D modeling and clash detection; review and approve 2D drawings and clearance envelopes; provide direction on engineering of custom parts; ensure safety regulations and ergonomic standards; review and approve conveyor manifests; manage and document engineering decisions; resolve escalated technical issues; travel to sites for audits;

    oversee installation and commissioning; develop team capabilities.
Qualifications
  • Basic: 5+ years of design & innovation, research & development experience;
    Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or foreign equivalent; experience with design & innovation and R&D; experience managing engineering design projects; proficiency with MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of specialty experience with progressive responsibility;
    Master’s degree in Engineering (any domain), Operations, Business Administration, or related field; knowledge of system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, electronic system design, and decision making; experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and high‑speed manufacturing; experience with design‑in‑safety; ability to think strategically about overall systems and translate into detailed requirements.
