Weston & Sampson is currently seeking a motivated Environmental Scientist/Geologist with 0-3 years of experience to join our Environmental, Geotechnical, and Energy (EGE) discipline in our Reading, MA and/or Portsmouth, NH office. The prospective candidate must have a strong work ethic and demonstrate a willingness to be part of a growing team. Ideally the candidate will reside in the southeast region of New Hampshire or northeast region of Massachusetts and have the ability to work in a hybrid environment (office / field and remote).
What you’ll do:- Conduct Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments consistent with ASTM standards and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) guidance/regulations
- Provide oversight and collect samples during the drilling of soil borings, installation of monitoring wells, and remedial activities (assignments may require long hours of field work)
- Collect samples for field screening and/or laboratory analysis (air, soil, groundwater, and water)
- Manage analytical data (tabulation, evaluation, and QA/QC review)
- Prepare plans/maps/boring logs
- Assist with the preparation of work plans and technical reports
- Assist with field assignments as needed by other disciplines (i.e., stormwater sampling, construction inspections, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, or another related field
- 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER) and annual refresher training
- 0 to 3 years of experience
- A positive attitude and the ability to communicate effectively with others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle a flexible workload, diverse projects, and work well with multiple staff members
- Willingness to travel to conduct field work (valid driver’s license is required)
- Experience working independently in a field setting (drilling supervision, sample collection, construction oversight) – a plus, but not mandatory
- Familiarity with ArcGIS and AutoCAD considered a plus, but not mandatory
