Academic Coach/Professional Tutor – RISE Program (Regular Part‑Time – Grant Funded)

The Academic Coach/Professional Tutor actively supports RISE program students by fostering academic skills, social‑emotional growth, campus navigation, and independent learning habits. The role collaborates closely with program staff to monitor student progress, address concerns, model professional behavior, and maintain an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide coaching, academic tutoring, and support in individual and small‑group settings.
  • Assist students in developing time‑management, organization, goal‑setting, and survival skills.
  • Help students identify strengths and improvement areas and track progress toward individualized goals.
  • Deliver positive reinforcement, motivation, and confidence‑building strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of coaching notes, tutoring sessions, and progress reports.
  • Refer academic and personal concerns to appropriate college personnel.
  • Connect students with campus resources such as counseling, disability services, advising, and financial aid.
  • Support workshops and structured learning sessions as needed.
  • Provide weekly one‑on‑one academic coaching to assigned RISE students.
  • Support development of vocational, social, and independent living skills aligned with individual goals.
  • Communicate progress and concerns to the Coordinator/RISE.
  • Strengthen social‑emotional, campus‑navigation, and safety skills.
  • Assist with summer activities for middle and high‑school students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Provide support to incoming first‑year RISE students during the summer bridge program.
  • Travel to the College Education Centers as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and comply with student‑records privacy policies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, program trainings, committees, work groups, and professional organizations.
  • Engage in professional development and cross‑training related to coaching and tutoring.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
  • Associate degree in a related field (required).
Licenses & Clearances
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • PA Child History clearance.
  • PA Criminal Record Check clearance.
  • FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with college students and/or neurodiverse learners.
  • Experience supporting students with executive functioning, academic coaching, or social‑skills development.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Professional demeanor in unpredictable situations.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Problem‑solving and corrective recommendation abilities.
Physical, Audible and Visual Demands
  • Prolonged sitting.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and moving around campus.
  • Repetitive finger/hand movements.
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs and bending.
  • Ability to communicate orally and hear conversation.
  • Use of computer and internet‑based systems; reading and preparing documents.
Environmental Conditions and Hazards
  • Work conducted in a typical indoor office environment with controlled lighting, noise, and temperature.
  • Minimal risk of injury or work‑related illnesses.

Salary: $19.02 per hour.

Schedule
  • Part‑time hours vary Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., based on student needs.
