Job Description

Job Title: Student Assistance Program Regional Coordinator (PNSAS – PA Network for Student Assistance Services)

Position Summary:
This position is accountable for coordinating the Student Assistance initiative within their regional area and acts as liaison between Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS), Department of Education (PDE), and Department of Drug & Alcohol Programs (DDAP), the local school district(s), community agencies and local county government. This position represents the PA Network for Student Assistance Services (PNSAS) at all levels locally within each region, and at the statewide level when assigned.

Dimensions:
Each SAP Regional Coordinator is responsible for several counties within their region:

Region 5 – Cameron, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, McKean, Potter, Venango, Warren

Region 8 – Allegheny, Bedford, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, Washington & Westmoreland

Regions could be subject to change based on criteria from the Interagency Committee.

Regional Coordinator will work closely with county, agency, and district staff in their region.

Counties served: 8+

Districts served:
All districts within that region.

Staff served:
All staff within that region (county, agencies, and education entities)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Regional

  • Regional responsibilities require virtual and in-person meetings as well as travel within the region.
  • Attend county coordination meetings within region on a regular basis; initiate and facilitate meetings where coordination is needed; provide SAP update from all three state departments; “monitor” the overall functioning of the collaborative SAP system within that county.
  • Attend other collaborative meetings such as district councils, or work groups/forums/committees set up to deal with systemic issues related directly or indirectly to SAP and other initiatives such as suicide prevention, school safety, and MTSS, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance as needed, to county/joinder coordination teams, district councils, school districts, intermediate units, mental health/drug and alcohol agencies, and other child serving systems regarding SAP issues within the geographic boundaries of the region.
  • Provide resources to county funded SAP liaisons, school districts, charter schools, and other child-serving systems that will enhance their K-12 student assistance efforts.
  • Promote local problem-solving efforts to enhance the functioning of K-12 student assistance programming in each school district.
  • Monitor and provide ongoing technical assistance to assigned PA Approved SAP Training Providers (PASTPs). Maintain computer files of training participants from PASTPs in the region.
  • Maintain a work home office location as per the signed flexible work agreement guidelines and perform duties that pertain to office organization. Maintain electronic records related to SAP and the PASTPs within geographic location. Ensure all communication (electronic, written, and oral) is effective and professional.
  • Assess training and other SAP related needs of the region.

    Facilitate training; provide consultation, and/or updates for PA Approved SAP K-12 Training Providers (PASTP), mental health/drug and alcohol SAP liaisons, K-12 student assistance teams, and other child-servicing systems.
  • Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Statewide

Attend MH SAP staff and PNSAS staff meetings.

Attend PASTP meetings hosted by PNSAS.

Lead and/or participate in committees and projects that have statewide policy implications.

Participate in the policy and program development aspects of Pennsylvania’s Student Assistance Program.

Participate in Pennsylvania Association of Student Assistance Professionals (PASAP) activities when appropriate and feasible.

Present workshops, develop training designs, or participate in a variety of child-serving systems training events or conferences.

Participate in professional development opportunities relative to the regional coordinator role (e.g., conferences, webinars, and trainings).
