Position Description

Job Title: Paraprofessional

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Reporting Functions: Principal, John Paul II Center for Special Learning

JOB FUNCTION: Assists with the day-to-day operation of the classroom in an efficient manner that supports the mission of John Paul II Center for Special Learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists classroom teacher with certain instructional and routine tasks including individual and small group tutoring, supervising students independently and helping to prepare materials for the classroom.
  • Performs such routine tasks as feeding, lifting, personal care on a daily basis if needed.
  • Follows school policies in maintaining order and safety in the classroom, cafeteria, playground and on school premises.
  • At any time during employment you may be reassigned to another classroom in order to meet the needs of the center and students.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Position requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a genuine fondness for children. The position further requires sensitivity to students with disabilities. It is essential that any employee must be able to safely stand, physically lift, and transport a student weighing 30 pounds. If the student weighs more than 30 pounds, the employee will lift and transport the student with another staff person.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Typical classroom for students with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • This is a part time position with a maximum of 29 hours weekly for a ten-month school year unless other arrangements are made with the principal to work in the summer. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday; 8:45 AM to 2:30 PM.
  • May be required to work additional hours as needed.
