Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required (must be willing to obtain the PA Para educator Credential of Competency Certificate within the probationary period).
  • Associate's degree or higher OR completion of two (2) years of post‑secondary education OR 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university;
    Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred
    .
  • Background in special education preferred
    .
  • Experience working with students with severe/complex behavioral or emotional issues preferred
    .
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in taking student data; experience utilizing direct‑instruction programs, and experience using online learning systems.
  • Able to handle confidential information, enjoy working with students with disabilities, establish rapport with students, and understand the needs and feelings of students.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to various classrooms throughout Montgomery County.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read whiteboard, student work, and printed materials.
  • Auditory acuity sufficient to hear spoken word; ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
  • Can work as a member of a team, be courteous, and deal effectively with people in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Can cope with the needs and behavior patterns of children, withstand emotional stress, and possess a warm, friendly, helpful personality.
  • Able to follow written and verbal directions, complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision, read, write, and perform simple computations.
  • Capable of completing CPI/Safety Cares training.
  • Can work independently, make work‑related decisions, and exercise good judgment with student interaction.
  • Current certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize direct‑instruction programs and online learning systems.
  • Take teacher direction and support student behavior by proactively responding to behavior, implementing behavior plans as directed, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with students, professionals, parents, supervisors, administrators, and school district personnel.
  • Assist the teacher with preparation of daily lesson assignments, including materials preparation, correction of assignments, and record‑keeping.
  • Implement principles of applied behavior analysis and take student data when needed.
  • Assist the teacher with classroom organization and preparation of materials and bulletin boards, including lifting and manipulation of books or materials.
  • Assist the teacher with individual and group instruction by implementing activities designed by the teacher.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher.
  • Present a positive image of the Intermediate Unit, its programs, and services.
  • Work as a 1:1 assistant in the classroom as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Location

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit has classrooms located throughout Montgomery County, PA. More information on the Early Intervention program and locations can be found at (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). This position is located at the MCIU's Learning Academy (1605 W. Main St. Norristown, PA).

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours per day, 12 months (194 days per year).

Hourly Rate
  • Starting at $21.27/hour for High School Diploma/Associate's Degree.
  • Starting at $22.35/hour for Bachelor's Degree.
  • $1.00/hour stipend for valid PA Teaching Certification.
