Woodmere Art Museum seeks an energetic, creative, and collaborative Assistant Curator of School Programs to help shape one of the region's most dynamic museum education departments. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire thousands of students each year through meaningful encounters with original works of art while developing innovative educational experiences that connect creativity, inquiry, and learning.

Working closely with the Curator of Education, the Assistant Curator serves as a key partner in developing, implementing, and evaluating school programs across Woodmere's Smith Hall and Maguire Hall campuses. The successful candidate will combine a passion for teaching with strong organizational skills to build relationships with schools, support a vibrant community of museum docents and teaching artists, and advance the museum's mission of making art accessible, engaging, and relevant for every learner.

This position is ideal for an experienced educator who enjoys balancing direct teaching with program development and is excited to create memorable learning experiences rooted in the art and artists of Philadelphia.

Teaching & Visitor Engagement
  • Lead engaging, inquiry-based gallery experiences for students, teachers, and school groups that encourage observation, discussion, and multiple perspectives.
  • Foster inclusive learning environments that welcome diverse ages, abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles while representing the museum with professionalism.
Program Management
  • Coordinate the planning, scheduling, logistics, and communication for school programs across both museum campuses.
  • Collaborate with and support docents, teaching artists, volunteers, and education staff to deliver exceptional learning experiences and ensure the smooth operation of school programs.
  • Evaluate programs, collect data, and prepare reports to measure impact, support grant requirements, and inform future program development.
  • Support department initiatives, educator and community programs, and special projects while serving as a collaborative partner to the Curator of Education in advancing Woodmere's educational vision.
QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic educator who believes museums are places for curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Master's degree in Museum Education, Art Education, Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing and teaching educational programs in museums, schools, or other informal learning environments.
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based teaching, curriculum development, and inclusive educational practices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment.
  • Basic knowledge of art history and studio art practices.
  • Able to work occasional evenings and weekends for programs and special events.

Woodmere Art Museum values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity to all persons, regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status and any other status protected by law.
