Peer Tutor Position

Peer Tutors are academic student leaders who play an important role in supporting the Albright community. They help motivate and encourage students in their learning while providing academic support tailored to individual course needs. As members of the Peer Tutoring staff, tutors work with students through our Circle In AI tutoring system, one-on-one, and in small-group sessions to review course material and strengthen academic skills.

Tutoring responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting students through the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing
• Answering questions and providing clarification on course content
• Reviewing course material and providing constructive feedback
• Helping students develop effective study strategies and create study materials
• Providing practice and preparation opportunities to reinforce mastery of course content
• Helping students develop general academic and study skills

Peer Tutors work approximately 5 hours per week, with schedules based on student and program needs. Additional responsibilities may include leading class visits, helping design and present academic workshops, tabling at admissions events, and assisting with special programs and events.

Peer Tutors should be enthusiastic about helping fellow students succeed and committed to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment.

Essential Job Functions:

• Complete required training by established deadlines
• Commit to at least 5 hours per week of tutoring throughout the semester
• Check email daily and communicate with tutees as needed
• Complete accurate and timely tutoring session summaries
• Communicate with professors or supervisors about student progress when requested
• Participate in semester self-evaluations
• Follow Student Academic Support and College policies and uphold the College's values and expectations

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Strong academic performance and demonstrated mastery of the subject(s) tutored
• Reliable, flexible, and able to manage scheduling and email communication effectively
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Empathetic, approachable, and able to support students experiencing academic challenges
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality
• For Writing Support Tutors: strong writing skills, including brainstorming, drafting, revision/editing, research, and citation

Experience:

• Peer Tutors are selected based on academic ability, leadership, character, communication skills, and subject expertise. Tutors should be able to effectively communicate course content and support their peers' learning.

Education:

• Earned a B+ or higher in the course(s) they wish to tutor
• Faculty recommendation from the instructor(s) of the course(s) they wish to tutor
• Applicants will be asked to contact their professor(s) to complete the Faculty Recommendation Form
