Position Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and improve electrical systems and controls within an extrusion manufacturing operation. This role will focus on maintaining and optimizing production equipment, supporting new line installations, and driving continuous improvement in a high-temperature, high-speed environment. The ideal candidate is hands-on, solutions-oriented, and experienced with industrial controls and automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, troubleshoot, and improve electrical and control systems for extrusion lines and supporting equipment
- Support PLC/HMI programming, debugging, and modifications (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- Work with drives, motors, heaters, and temperature control systems common in extrusion processes
- Diagnose and resolve electrical issues to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability
- Support installation, commissioning, and startup of new or upgraded extrusion lines
- Collaborate with maintenance, production, and process engineering teams to optimize performance
- Develop and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and documentation
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards (NEC, NFPA, UL)
- Assist with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, preferably in extrusion or similar continuous process environments
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and sensors
- Experience troubleshooting high-speed production equipment
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics
- Hands-on, problem-solving mindset with strong communication skills
- Experience in plastics, blown film, sheet, pipe, or metal extrusion processes
- Familiarity with temperature control systems and PID loops
- Experience with motion control and servo systems
- Knowledge of industrial networking (Ether Net/IP, Profibus, etc.)
- Experience supporting capital projects and equipment upgrades
