Protection & Controls Technician

This position supports transmission and distribution substation commissioning projects by assisting the Start-Up Coordinator, P&C Lead, and Commissioning Engineer with testing, documentation, field verification, and project turnover activities. Successful candidates should possess a strong safety culture, be eager to learn, and be comfortable working in an active utility substation environment.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One to five years of directly relevant electric utility Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Protection & Controls or substation field experience preferred.
• Experience supporting utility substations—not primarily industrial facilities, commercial electrical work, construction-only roles, or generation.
• Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Pennsylvania.
• Strong work ethic with the ability to learn from experienced commissioning personnel while working safely in energized utility environments.

• Basic understanding of transmission and distribution protection and control systems.
• Experience assisting with protective relay testing and power meter testing.
• Familiarity with relay setting uploads/downloads and relay verification.
• Ability to perform or assist with point-to-point wiring verification, current and voltage loop checks, and functional testing.
• Basic understanding of SCADA, control circuits, DC systems, and substation communications.
• Ability to read electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience with Doble Protection Suite, Enoserv RTS, or similar relay testing platforms is preferred.
• Strong attention to documentation, drawing markups (As-Builts), and project closeout
