THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is an established, PE-backed manufacturing organization with multiple operating locations and a geographically dispersed finance structure. The company is strengthening its financial planning and analysis capabilities and is seeking an experienced Interim Director, FP&A to provide immediate leadership across forecasting, management reporting, financial modeling, budgeting, and operational analysis.

This is a hands‑on consulting engagement for a senior FP&A leader who can quickly assess the current environment, take ownership of critical planning and reporting activities, and build practical processes that can be sustained by the organization after the assignment concludes. The consultant will work closely with executive finance leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders throughout the business.

The successful candidate will combine strong manufacturing finance experience with advanced modeling capabilities, sound business judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in an environment where processes and responsibilities are still developing.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume ownership of core FP&A activities, including forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, management reporting, performance analysis, and decision support.
  • Partner closely with executive finance leadership to provide financial insight, analytical support, and structure during a period of organizational change.
  • Lead an in‑process forecast or reforecast, including reviewing assumptions, coordinating inputs, consolidating operating plans, and improving the consistency of existing models.
  • Evaluate current planning methodologies and develop a more unified approach to forecasting across business units, locations, and functional teams.
  • Own and enhance the recurring management reporting package, including financial results, key business drivers, variance explanations, operating metrics, and forward‑looking commentary.
  • Support preparation for the upcoming annual planning cycle, including development of timelines, templates, assumptions, financial models, and submission requirements.
  • Coordinate with business leaders & finance partners to collect, validate, challenge, & consolidate planning inputs.
  • Build and maintain financial models covering revenue, profitability, operating expenses, production performance, working capital, cash flow, capital spending, and scenario analysis.
  • Translate operational information into clear financial insights that support executive decision‑making.
  • Provide analysis related to sourcing, production, distribution, pricing, investment decisions, cost structure, capacity, and other operational or strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with manufacturing, operations, commercial, supply chain, accounting, treasury, and regional finance teams to understand business drivers and improve forecast accuracy.
  • Improve visibility into performance by location, product group, customer segment, operating unit, or other relevant management dimensions.
  • Analyze key manufacturing finance drivers, including labor, materials, overhead, inventory, utilization, yield, freight, operating efficiency, and capital requirements.
  • Identify gaps in current reporting, planning processes, data quality, model governance, and ownership responsibilities.
  • Establish more consistent reporting definitions, assumptions, templates, and review procedures across the organization.
  • Work with Accounting to ensure that forecasts, budgets, and management reporting remain aligned with actual financial results.
