As a Hazardous Waste Program Specialist with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will support key environmental programs that shape public health and safety. This position will involve working with experts across the agency while applying your knowledge of hazardous waste regulations to coordinate statewide cleanup and financial assurance activities. DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This position supports statewide hazardous waste cleanup and financial assurance programs by coordinating activities, reviewing submissions, and preparing program reports. You will also provide technical support to regional staff and help maintain consistent program operations.
- Program Coordination:
Support cleanup and financial assurance programs by reviewing activities and maintaining communication with other agencies. - Technical Review:
Evaluate filings, contractor work, and program documents for accuracy and completeness. - Report Preparation:
Prepare progress reports and written materials for internal and external partners. - Stakeholder Support:
Assist staff, regulated entities, and the public with questions on hazardous waste requirements. - Training Assistance:
Help coordinate training sessions explaining regulatory updates and program expectations. - Policy Support:
Participate in drafting guidance, reviewing regulations, and providing input on proposed changes.
- Full‑time employment.
- Work hours:
7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - Telework:
Opportunity to work from home part‑time, up to 3 days per week, provided you have a securely configured high‑speed internet connection and an approved work location inside Pennsylvania. Telework availability is subject to change. - Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.
- Two years of experience as a Solid Waste Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledge and abilities.
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
- Proof of possession of a REAL passport at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
