DESCRIPTION

OF WORK

This position conducts investigative work that supports the detection and resolution of fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct within Commonwealth agencies. As a Special Investigator 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Case Planning:
    Plan and conduct investigations within assigned time frames and in coordination with supervisors or lead investigators
  • Interview Work:
    Interview witnesses and employees and travel to field sites when necessary
  • Information Analysis:
    Analyze documents and case developments and report findings in writing and verbally
  • Agency Coordination:
    Work with federal, state, and local agencies to exchange information related to investigations
  • Surveillance Tasks:
    Perform moving and stationary surveillance using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Record Review:
    Obtain and review financial records and personnel files relevant to investigations

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 12 days per month based on operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

    The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary:

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Four years of experience conducting criminal, civil, or administrative investigations; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
Special Requirements
  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
  • You must obtain CLEAN/NCIC certification within two months of employment and maintain this certification for the duration of employment in this job.
  • You must attend and successfully complete the Commonwealth Investigator Training Program (CITP) within one year of employment.

  • You must demonstrate professionalism and discretion in your work.
  • You must possess solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • You must show initiative and possess problem-solving skills.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
