As an Environmental Planner 1 with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), you will support important environmental reviews that guide transportation decisions throughout District 10. This role supports environmental compliance by assisting with project reviews, permits, field evaluations, and coordination with agencies. As an Environmental Planner 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Permit Review: Evaluate project plans, permits, and documents to ensure compliance with environmental laws
- Impact Assessment: Analyze potential effects on species, water resources, ecological conditions, and cultural features
- Field Guidance: Support staff during field activities by providing environmental direction and monitoring site conditions
- Document Preparation: Assist with environmental impact statements, assessments, and technical reports
- Agency Coordination: Build relationships with regulatory agencies, officials, and community groups to support project goals

Help train staff and consultants on environmental practices and ensure commitments are followed during construction

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
Additional details may be provided during the interview - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
- A Bachelor's degree in planning or environmental planning; and one year of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
- A Master's degree in environmental planning; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
