Job Summary

Responsible for front line support to the department. Coordinates and performs front line office activities in an effective and efficient manner for the department. Greets and registers incoming patients, supports the patient checkout process and schedules future appointments as applicable. Mentors team members as a senior member of the access team.

Job Duties
  • Check patients in for appointments and accurately verify demographics.
  • Ensure all check‑in procedures are completed, monitor patient wait times and communicate changes to patients as necessary.
  • Read and interpret insurance responses and assign primary, secondary, and tertiary insurance per encounter in accordance with general guidelines and insurance rank requirements.
  • Communicate purpose of all necessary disclosures, privacy information and regulatory forms with patients and obtain required legal and financial signatures.
  • Notify patients or guarantors of anticipated financial responsibility including copays, deductibles, or coinsurance and collect accordingly.
  • Complete patient visits by scheduling any necessary follow‑up appointments, including specialty or ancillary services as possible.
  • Perform cash posting following department guidelines.
  • Abide by EMTALA, HIPAA guidelines, privacy practices, patient confidentiality and patient rights.
  • Work queues to ensure timely resolution of all accounts and maintain high regard for confidentiality.
  • Process multi‑channel messages related to patient and/or physician requests regarding appointments, referrals, prescriptions and complaints.
  • Accurately perform medical record maintenance and releases.
  • Assist with referrals and pre‑certifications at the time of encounter.
  • Maintain patient recall and reschedule lists.
  • Maintain productivity and quality performance expectations.
  • Attend regular developmental training and communicate updates to the clerical/Patient Access team.
  • Assist in training and mentoring all staff members, utilizing established guidelines and act as a role model for all staff members.
  • Cross‑train to be able to function in multiple locations within the facility.

    High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) - required.

    Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
