Residential Area Manager

Position Summary

Residential Area Manager – full‑time, 11‑month term. The manager lives on campus and oversees a residential area of 300–600 students, working cooperatively with Residence Life staff to create a positive and inclusive living‑learning community aligned with SJU’s Jesuit mission.

• Manage assigned residential area of 300–600 resident students.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate 7–16 Resident Assistants and 1 Head Resident Assistant.
• Enforce and interpret University and Residence Life policies.
• Serve as a student conduct hearing officer, adjudicating violations of University policies.
• Participate in the shared on‑call emergency management rotation (weekday, weekend, and University holiday).
• Facilitate departmental and area programming and community development based on the residential life programming model and other University priorities.
• Ensure participation in and success of Residential Learning Communities and special housing communities assigned to the area.
• Manage budget responsibilities for residential area programming.
• Assist with Resident Assistant selection, training, and evaluation processes.
• Assist with implementation of departmental processes including housing selection, recruitment, orientations, and occasional office operations coverage.
• Collaborate with the entire Residence Life staff to provide a positive and inclusive living experience for all residents.
• In cooperation with Housing Operations, assess and actively manage the physical condition of residence halls for cleanliness and maintenance.
• Conduct routine health and safety inspections and keep records of damages and fines for student billing.
• Maintain productive relationships with Facilities Management, Housekeeping, Dining Services, Public Safety, and the Student Life team.
• Coordinate and/or participate in key summer projects: summer term housing oversight, housing assignments, New Student Orientation, revision of publications and staff manuals, planning of fall RA Training, early arrival programs, and other special projects.
• Collaborate with Student Life and other university community members to foster a positive campus environment.
• Attend professional seminars, training, and conferences relevant to the position.
• Participate in and contribute to the professional development of the Office of Residence Life and the Division of Student Life.
• Assist with implementation of campus‑wide programs and Student Life events.
• Represent the Jesuit philosophy, departmental mission, and University policies to residents, parents, students, and personnel.
• Maintain a high degree of professionalism and serve as a positive role model.
• Serve on University and Student Life committees as necessary.

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Strong supervision, communication, and managerial skills essential.
• Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education, or a closely related major preferred.
• 1–3 years of prior Residence Life experience at the graduate or professional level.
• Demonstrated student‑focused orientation and collaborative work style.
• Demonstrated commitment to nurturing inclusive communities within the residence halls.

Shared on‑call duty rotation for evenings, weekends, and University holidays; occasional evening/weekend hours to attend programs, training sessions, or meet with students.

Live in the residence hall is required; a furnished apartment with utilities paid by the University will be provided.

• Estimated pay range: $43,500–$45,000 annually for an eleven‑month work period; salary commensurate with experience and education.
• 9‑month university meal plan available while the University is in session.
