Commissioning Project Manager (Blue Bell, Pennsylvania)

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and commissioning, qualification, validation of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Commissioning Project Manager to join our dedicated team at our office in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning activities for mission‑critical data center projects. This role ensures that all electrical, mechanical, and control systems are designed, installed, tested, and operated according to project requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.

Position Responsibilities
  • Lead end‑to‑end commissioning activities for data center projects, including planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout.
  • Develop and manage commissioning plans, scripts, and procedures for all critical systems (HVAC, electrical, BMS/EPMS, fire protection, etc.).
  • Coordinate with design teams, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure proper system integration and functionality.
  • Oversee Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Identify, track, and resolve commissioning issues, deficiencies, and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, and Uptime Institute guidelines.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings with stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver detailed reports, including commissioning documentation, test results, and turnover packages.
  • Support client training and handover processes to operations teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 8 or more years of experience in commissioning, construction, or project management within mission‑critical/data center environments.
  • Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure (UPS systems, generators, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, switch gear, etc.).
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Familiarity with commissioning standards and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), LEED, or similar certification.
  • Experience with large‑scale or hyperscale data centers.
  • Knowledge of controls systems (BMS/EPMS) and automation platforms.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocols.
Travel
  • Travel based on the project location.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
  • Travel will be per the IPS Travel Policy, client‑specific travel policy, or project‑specific travel plan.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
Safety
  • This position is a safety‑sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research or other non‑administrative areas.
Mission
  • Ensure data centers are commissioned safely, systematically, and to design intent.
  • Deliver reliable capacity, verified performance, and complete turnover documentation ready for operations.
