Job Summary
This position is responsible for the overall operation of all department machines and the supply of good‑quality products while meeting deadlines and maintaining safety standards. Responsibilities include training assistants, creating SOPs and production documentation, data entry, cross‑training into other roles as needed, and attending departmental, production, safety, and company meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities- 40% Operate all department machinery with minimal supervision, including mixing, extruding, grinding during breaks and shift changes; assist Grinder crews during full cleans; fill in for absences and operate the Small Grinder when available.
- 20% Adhere to quality guidelines and continually check product quality throughout manufacturing; work with Supervisor and crew to ensure Standard Work and 6S guidelines are followed.
- 20% Operate forklift to lift/transport raw materials and finished products while complying with all power equipment rules and safety requirements.
- 10% Maintain a clean work environment, keep tools and equipment orderly, store items properly, maintain equipment, and report maintenance issues immediately.
- 5% Utilize computer at workstation to log in, enter/review production data and work orders as required.
- 5% Cross‑train into other job functions, providing assistance as necessary or during downtime.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- High School Diploma/GED or 4 years of machine operator/manufacturing experience.
- English fluency (read, write, speak).
- Proven ability to multitask in a stressful environment, attention to detail, and adaptability to changing demands.
- Read and understand units of measure.
- Ability to perform basic math functions.
- Comfort with data entry and basic computer skills; ERP experience preferred.
- Safety conscious and capable of working safely in all conditions.
- Willingness to work overtime to meet operational requirements.
- Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the role.
- Minimum 12 months forklift experience.
- Minimum 12 months manufacturing or machine operating experience.
- Ability to wear a mask when performing the job and work from heights.
- Ability to learn operation of all Color Mill machines within six months.
Manufacturing setting with high‑pressure air/steam/gas, hazardous fumes, extreme heat, loud noise, exposure to dangerous machinery, dirty conditions, and dust from pigment. PPE required includes safety glasses, steel‑toe/composite boots, and earplugs.
Physical and Mental DemandsProlonged standing, walking, repetitive actions, frequent bending, reaching, climbing, stooping, lifting (up to 55 pounds), and pushing/pulling. Requires manual dexterity, effective communication, adequate hearing, attention to detail, time management, and strict adherence to safety policies.
