Position Overview

Make the Road PA and Make the Road Action PA are seeking a savvy, passionate, and creative Digital Organizer to spearhead our digital organizing work.

Organization Overview

Make the Road PA was launched in 2014 and, over the last decade, has quickly become one of the largest Latinx organizations in the state of Pennsylvania. MRPA now runs three robust organizing centers in Reading, Allentown, and Philadelphia. We have a strong, engaged membership base of Black and Brown working‑class people, primarily in Latinx communities. We have a strong track record of local and state campaigns, large‑scale mobilizations on federal issues, large‑scale civic engagement work, and active leadership among key progressive organizing groups, coalitions, and tables across the state.

Position

Summary

The Digital Organizer at MRPA and MRAPA will play a vital role in building our base and membership using online tools. This position engages in online‑to‑offline organizing, identifying potential members online and moving them to taking offline action. This position will provide support to the Communications Manager in digital content and strategy creation. The Digital Organizer will lead the digital base building and mobilization efforts at MRPA, including generating leads, running peer‑to‑peer texting programs with staff and members, and working with the Organizers and Lead Organizers to advance local and statewide campaigns.

They will work with the Organizing department to run leadership development training and participate in leadership development of individual members.
This is not a purely content creation and social media management role, it is a position focused on building MRPA’s membership base and leadership development through digital tools.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in base‑building, including: outreach, membership recruitment and engagement, member meetings, mobilizing, and leadership development;
  • Support local issue‑based campaigns on immigrant rights, workers’ rights, education justice, climate justice, and/or housing justice;
  • Provide digital and communications support for events and mobilizations on issues impacting the organizations’ membership;
  • Develop and implement popular education and leadership development curriculum;
  • Coordinate with the Lead Organizers of the organizing centers on statewide campaigns and organization‑wide events;
  • Develop copy (including scripts), videos, graphics, petitions, etc. for social media use;
  • Constantly connect and build our national supporter base through organic social media, texting, calling, and other avenues including: member referral, reaching out to relevant online communities of progressives, blog posts, emails, or peer‑to‑peer texts to member lists;
  • Identify relevant news articles and social media posts that reflect the organizations’ policy priorities, values, and brand for redistribution via the organization’s social media channels;
  • Experiment with engagement strategies to reach out to potential supporters and current members, move them and deepen their leadership;
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, craft effective narratives that engage a variety of stakeholders including members, allies, elected officials, and funders;
  • Track the actions of the organizations’ leadership development in Every Action (database).

The work schedule can at times be greater than 40 hours per week and includes evening and weekend meetings and events, as necessary. It is not a strictly 9am‑5pm position.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and social justice, and an understanding of the challenges facing immigrant communities, communities of color, and low‑income families;
  • Demonstrated commitment to community organizing, leadership development, and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change;
