Job Summary

Geisinger is proud to offer a Nursing Assistant a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $16.25 with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Also offering up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.

Job Duties
  • Responsible and accountable for performing a wide range of direct patient care activities and clerical duties, depending on the unit’s needs.
  • Perform tasks efficiently and timely to enhance the care team’s ability to provide quality care.
  • Meet the qualifications to care for patients within the specific age range of the assigned clinical area.
  • Provide patient care as directed, within the nursing assistant scope of practice, supporting the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
  • Identify, observe, and document the patient’s physical needs according to established standards.
  • Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel promptly.
  • Obtain and maintain specimen integrity in accordance with policy, procedure, and physician order.
  • Assist or provide activities of daily living, including patient hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provide one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately process specimens and transport them to the laboratory in a timely manner.
  • Perform point‑of‑care patient testing and maintain point‑of‑care instruments and quality control.
  • Assist in problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students positively.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths, facilitate patient throughput activities.
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards.
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
  • Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit.
  • Schedule tests, fax consultations, etc.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, stationery items, floor stock, patient needs, and individual nursing supplies.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate, problem‑solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment.
  • Schedule maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
  • Transport non‑controlled medications as needed, including to and from Pharmacy and the Blood Bank.
  • Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
  • Accountable for satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
