THE POSITION
Join the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) as a Nurse Manager 1 and help lead high-quality care for veterans and their spouses at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. In this role, you will guide nursing staff and strengthen daily clinical operations. This position assists the Clinical Services Manager in planning, organizing, and directing clinical and administrative functions within the Nursing Department. The work supports regulatory compliance, resident care, and strong nursing operations. As a Nurse Manager 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Unit Inspection:
Inspect nursing units for compliance and assess resident care needs - Care Evaluation:
Review treatment plans to ensure they meet resident needs and nursing standards - Policy Input:
Provide input into policies to support compliance with all regulatory requirements - Quality Review:
Participate in quality assurance programs and direct staff as needed - Resident Monitoring:
Observe resident conditions and ensure changes are reported appropriately - Staff Orientation:
Orient supervisors and assist with new employee training and evaluation
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 2nd shift (1:00 PM to 9:30 PM), Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. You will work a flex-schedule with evenings and weekends as needed.

- Two years as a Registered Nurse Supervisor or three years as a Registered Nurse Instructor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) in a facility providing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; or
- Six years of professional nursing experience, which includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability; and a bachelor's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration. A master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of the required general professional nursing work experience.
or - An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year in a supervisory or consultative capacity providing nursing care and services for people with a mental or physical injury, illness, or developmental disability.
- You must possess active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
