DESCRIPTIONOF WORK
This position centers on supervising inmate crews and teaching the safe operation of heavy construction equipment. As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will maintain and guide an inmate work crew while providing classroom and hands‑on instruction, along with ensuring security and proper work practices. As a Corrections Construction Equipment Operator Instructor, you will perform the following duties:
- Crew Supervision:
Lead inmate work crews in construction, excavation, and maintenance tasks - Equipment Instruction:
Train inmates in safe and correct use of heavy machinery such as backhoes, loaders, and excavators - Safety Oversight:
Enforce all safety rules, tool procedures, and institutional policies - Work Coordination:
Plan, assign, and review work while monitoring progress and quality - Equipment Care:
Perform and teach basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment - Documentation Duties:
Complete inmate instruction records, evaluations, time records, and payroll forms
- Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday‑Friday
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55

Starting annual salary of $51,868.00 (before taxes) for new employees
Below are the requirements and expectations for the role.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY- Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the operation of heavy equipment; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which includes one year of journeyman‑level work
- You must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- You must meet the PA residency requirement
- You must be able to perform essential job functions
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
