Corrections Maintenance Foreman - SCI Somerset

THE POSITION

As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset, you will support daily operations by supervising inmate crews and assisting with hands‑on maintenance tasks. This position provides opportunities to use your trade knowledge while teaching responsibility and work readiness. You will contribute to a well‑organized and safe environment through teamwork and reliable task management. Your efforts help keep essential systems running and the facility in working order.

This position supports daily maintenance and repair needs throughout the facility while supervising inmate work crews. The role blends leadership, hands‑on work, and safety awareness to ensure that work assignments are completed properly and on schedule. As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman, you will perform the following duties:

• Crew Supervision:
  Oversee inmate work crews completing maintenance, construction, groundskeeping, and janitorial tasks
• Work Assignment:
  Plan daily schedules, give instructions, and inspect completed tasks for quality and safety
• Equipment Training:
  Provide guidance on the proper operation and preventive maintenance of machinery and vehicles
• Task Performance:
  Assist with skilled and semi‑skilled work in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical
• Tool Control:
  Issue and inventory tools and materials and conduct searches to ensure all items are accounted for

• Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:15 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday‑Friday
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position
• Salary:
  Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes)

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
• You must be able to perform essential job functions

• You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
