Job Details

The primary responsibility of all Facilities Staff is to work as a team to provide a safe, attractive, functional and efficient facility within which the campus community may grow and prosper. It should be understood that all plant employees, will at times, be assigned other duties within their capability aside from their designated area of expertise.

This position works within the trade scope of installing, repairing, pipes and plumbing; operates and services the heating, air conditioning and mechanical equipment within the plant, and other duties as assigned.

Job Description
  • Work within the trade scope of the plumbing trade:
    Installs and repairs pipes, fixtures and other apparatus of the water, gas and sewer systems;
    Maintains proper functioning of pipes, fixtures and other apparatus of the water, gas and sewer systems;
    Operates the major plumbing system (e.g. supply system, drain-waste system, vent system);
    Insures proper usage of major water appliances, waste disposal, drainpipe pressure to prevent the escape of toxic gases;
  • Check domestic hot water systems and repair when needed such as replace water heaters, circulators, etc.;
    Troubleshoot any water, heat and drainage systems;
    Repair or replace fixtures and components as necessary;
    Repair or replace drainage systems as necessary;
    Install bathrooms from rough to trim;
    Make alterations on plumbing systems;
    Execute a preventative maintenance program;
    Cooperate with other University employees and related contractors to achieve the best possible results;
    Submits orders for materials through department procedures
  • Work within the scope of HVAC:
    Operation of and services to the heating system and mechanical equipment;
    Operates boilers, condo pumps, compressors, ejector, oil pump, Dye House machinery and electrical controls, rotates pumps weekly;
    Checks heat in buildings;
    Blows down boilers as recommended by consultant;
    Monitors water tests provided by consultant;
    Monitors and maintains the systems controls;
    Replaces parts, motors, belt, firebrick, pumps, traps, valves, pipes, etc.;
    Maintains equipment through preventative measures, oils motors, replaces gaskets and rebuilds traps;
    Cleans No. 2 oil fired boilers and replaces parts;
  • Cooperate with other University employees and related contractors to achieve the best possible results;
    Maintains rapport with HVAC contractor whose primary responsibility is preventative maintenance and annual boiler inspections, CFC control and troubleshooting beyond in-house capability;
    Keeps records of the operation and repair boilers and vessels;
    Reports any problems to the physical plant office;
    Submits oil tank readings every week;
  • Provides work order documentation feedback on trade and non-trade related tasks;
  • Must provide your own tools necessary for plumbing and HVAC work.
