A Gas Fitter or Gas Mechanic (A-tech) is required to perform intensive physical construction labor duties such as hand digging while utilizing various tools and methods around all underground utilities for service and main work that is being performed. This will include but not limited to digging trenches and/or ditches, backfill and compacting in addition to skilled technical work that is related to the installation, maintenance, and operation of natural gas facilities which will be performed under the supervision of a gas foreman.
In addition, as a A-Tech it is imperative to have proficient Safety skills, Quality workmanship and a Trustworthy reputation to provide the utmost degree of value in every task that you perform.
- Assist the crew with the construction and installation of natural gas mains and service lines utilizing various pipe joining methods.
- Maintain a high level of expertise in the installation and repair of underground gas facilities.
- Operate construction equipment such as, Dump Trucks, Loaders, Tampers, Air Compressors, and Fusion equipment.
- Must maintain the cleanliness of all company owned and rented vehicles/equipment that you operate is required. In addition, all fluids need to be checked prior to operation and any fitting that requires grease needs to be checked and/or greased daily.
- Requires on-call availability for emergency situations as well as working extended hours as necessary
- Thorough knowledge of the hazards associated with working around natural gas, heavy equipment at/near trenches and all the additional safety precautions.
- The ability to navigate through the gas construction standards and O&Ms associated with each task that is being performed.
- Must be willing to listen, learn and communicate effectively with the project manager, superintendent, foreman or other general laborers to complete each given task and overall job successfully.
- Lift/carry materials and performs other duties involving the use of hand and power tools.
- Must be able to hand dig with a shovel and dig bars.
- Support Foremen, General Foremen & Supervisors as needed
- Valid Drivers license and DOT med card
- Ability to work in all types of weather conditions.
- The ability to travel to a new location upon request at any time throughout BGE territories. The travel cost will be covered at your own expense.
- Avoiding the use of a cell phone while working.
- Must have at least 1-3 years of experience in gas utility industry
- Proper utilization of your Stop Work/Time Out Responsibility, this needs to be utilized when there is a change in work conditions that hasn’t been communicated, when equipment is improperly used, or even if there is a lack of knowledge for a task that is being performed.
- Ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push and/or pull, twist and make repetitive hand movements. Ability to load, carry, lift, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Sitting or standing for prolonged period of time required. Must have the ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle.

- Gas Mechanic (A-Technician):
Minimum of 1-3 years gas experience - Valid driver’s license for at least 1 year.
- Must have the ability to safely operate a motorized vehicle
- High school diploma or equivalent
