Automotive Mechanic

THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is seeking an Automotive Mechanic who enjoys solving mechanical challenges and working with a variety of vehicles. This role provides steady, meaningful work that supports safe travel across the region. You will perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and inspections to ensure equipment stays in excellent condition. This position performs maintenance, inspections and repairs on vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools used in transportation operations. The role ensures equipment remains safe, reliable, and ready for daily use. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Repair:
  Perform skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment
• Preventive Maintenance:
  Complete oil changes, diagnostics, tune-ups, and servicing of mechanical systems
• Safety Inspections:
  Conduct official state inspections and ensure repairs meet required specifications
• Diesel Servicing:
  Replace parts, filters and perform system repairs on diesel-powered equipment
• Field Work:
  Provide emergency road service and perform maintenance at stockpile locations when needed
• Record Keeping:
  Maintain equipment records and obtain parts and supplies for repair activities

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
• Telework:
  You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary:
  Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,819 (before taxes).

• Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
• Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

• This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension .
• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
