Job Overview

In the County Caseworker 1 position with Washington County Children and Youth Services, you will help guide children, youth, and families toward positive change. This role provides meaningful opportunities to support people during important moments in their lives while gaining hands‑on experience in a supportive and professional environment.

• Client Support:
  Assist children, youth, and families in working toward improved social and emotional adjustment.
• Information Gathering:
  Collect essential background details needed to understand client needs.
• Counseling Services:
  Provide guidance to clients and family members as they address challenges.
• Resource Coordination:
  Help clients make use of available community and agency supports.
• Training Participation:
  Engage in required classroom and fieldwork training under supervision during the probationary period.

Full‑time employment. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. This position may include evening and weekend hours and on‑call duties. After one year of service, the position automatically progresses to Caseworker II at an hourly rate of $27.23 ($53,098.50/year). Telework is not available.

• Two years as a County Social Services Aide III plus two years of college coursework totaling 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or a related social science; or
• A bachelor’s degree which includes or is supplemented by 12 credits in one of those social science areas; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 credits in a related social science and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide III or in a similar case‑management position.
• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• Must be able to perform essential job functions.

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination, drug screening, and a background investigation.
• The position is governed by the Child Protective Services Law; submission and approval of satisfactory criminal‑history reports (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, FBI fingerprint clearance) are required.
