Corrections Activities Specialist - SCI Greene

The State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Greene is seeking an enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and creative Corrections Activities Specialist who is ready to make a positive impact. In this role, you will help guide inmates through recreational programs that support healthy routines and personal growth. Each day brings new opportunities to lead activities, encourage participation, and build a supportive environment.

This position develops, leads, and maintains recreational and wellness programs designed to support inmate growth and constructive use of time. The role involves planning activities, guiding participants, and assisting with the administration of broad program goals.

• Plan and conduct structured activities, sports, and wellness programs for inmate groups.
• Teach skills, explain expectations, and guide inmates through individual and group activities.
• Review activity participation, assess program effectiveness, and maintain required reports and records.
• Direct inmates in setting up, maintaining, and organizing recreation areas and equipment.
• Monitor inventory, store equipment properly, and request supplies as needed.

• Full‑time employment, 40 hours per week.
• Work hours are 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tuesday – Saturday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

• A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in recreation and physical education; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
• You must meet the PA residency requirement.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

• Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
