We are currently seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate to fill the role of Logistics Supervisor. This full-time, day shift position is based in Mifflintown, and offers an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to a culture built on quality, integrity, and teamwork.

The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for managing the transportation function for the plant location. Provide a reliable, consistent delivery of product to customers while maximizing cost-efficiencies for the company. This role will require the evaluation and utilization of combined resources including company and carrier transportation and establishing partnerships with key external carriers and other resources to provide high service experience to our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and train drivers and loaders on best practices, company policies, and safety standards to promote high performance and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Supervise and manage daily operational tasks, including route and vehicle assignments, pick-ups, and deliveries. Conduct visits to warehouse to ensure proper loading practices and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Optimize costs and truck cubing while meeting delivery commitments and stated customer lead-times. Minimize out-of-route miles and stops to provide efficient routes.
  • Coordinate notice of ship-dates to customers and any changes to delivery date and time as conditions change.
  • Oversee company drivers including their department of transportation requirements, and week-to-week responsibilities; provide training, feedback and annual performance reviews.
  • Work with external transportation suppliers to complement company truck fleet; develop partnerships and clear guidelines / operating procedures to provide needed service to customers; negotiate rates / terms for cost effective solutions.
  • Develop methodology for selecting the optimum transportation mode (truck, LTL, small parcel) based upon the business need across key needs including service, lead-time and cost.
  • Coordinate transportation cross-docking with sister companies to reduce external transportation use.
  • Evaluate shipping damage and file claims with carriers as needed. Also, work with the plant team on packaging designs that minimize damage during shipping.
  • Partner with Penske on the leased trucks and trailers. Ensure that all maintenance activities are performed as needed. Regularly assess equipment leased versus business need and alternate options.
  • Track freight costs, truck utilization, and provide reporting on actual results versus budget.
  • Work with supply chain team to coordinate component material pick-ups and deliveries that utilize company trucks and improve total costs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent experience/education.
  • 2-4 years of experience in production scheduling and logistics role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office computer skill.
Working Relationship

This position manages the company drivers and interacts with employees across all levels of the organization from production workers to the President and CEO. The position reports to the Vice President – Supply Chain. Daily communication will be required with plant operations (production, shipping), the supply chain team, customer service and engineering.
