Position
Become an Equipment Operator B with the Department of Human Services (DHS) and help keep the Clark Summit State Hospital running smoothly each day.
This role gives you the chance to work with a wide range of equipment while supporting important facility operations. Your efforts help maintain well‑kept grounds, clear roadways, and dependable transportation services for residents, staff, and visitors. This position offers a meaningful way to use your skills to care for a hospital community that depends on your dedication.
Description of Work- Operate light and medium weight vehicles to support transportation, deliveries, and material movement.
- Use tractors, loaders, and related equipment for digging, excavating, repairs, and landscaping work.
- Provide on‑ground and off‑ground escort services using vans and buses as assigned.
- Perform routine maintenance, minor repairs, inspections, and record keeping for assigned equipment.
- Carry out snow and ice removal using light and heavy equipment during winter operations.
- Maintain hospital grounds by mowing, trimming, planting, and restoring outdoor areas.
- Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
- Hours:
8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Includes a rotating weekend and holiday schedule with a 12‑hour shift every 5th or 6th weekend. - Overtime and travel as needed.

No option to telework. - Salary:
May be non‑negotiable in some cases.
- Minimum of one year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (or equivalent).
- Or two years of experience operating heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more.
- Or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Class B commercial driver’s license with air‑brake and passenger endorsement required for specific equipment.
- PA residency requirement must be met.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to PA State Police and FBI clearance.
- Qualified veterans receive employment preference as provided by Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103).
