Equipment Operator B - Gallitzin Forest District, Somerset

In this role, you will perform skilled maintenance work throughout Gallitzin State Forest, including upkeep of forest roads, buildings, and picnic areas. You will operate a variety of equipment such as trucks, truck‑and‑trailer combinations, snow groomers, graders, track loaders, bulldozers, backhoes, hand mowers, and lawn tractors. You will also handle routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on assigned equipment to keep operations running smoothly.

• This is a seasonal, full‑time position with no health‑care benefits. The season runs from approximately April 2026 until November 2026, after which the employee will be placed on leave without pay and automatically returned to employment in March 2027.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.

• One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration).
• Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more.
• Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

• You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.

• This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).

• You must meet the Pennsylvania residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, refer to Residency Guidelines.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
