Job Overview
Are you ready to make a hands‑on impact in protecting and maintaining Pennsylvania state forests? As an Equipment Operator B with the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR), you will play an important part in maintaining forest roads, facilities, and natural areas. This role offers steady, practical work that keeps state forests safe and accessible.
This role focuses on operating heavy equipment and performing maintenance tasks that support forest roads, facilities, and public safety. You will help preserve forest resources through hands‑on work across the district. As an Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:
Responsibilities- Operate CDL rated machinery and vehicles for hauling materials, clearing snow, and supporting forest projects.
- Perform repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Maintain buildings, signs, roads, trails, and other state forest structures.
- Assist with wildfire prevention, suppression, reporting, and related training activities.
- Support district operations through project work, surveys, material handling, and site maintenance.
- Seasonal, full‑time employment without health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026, after which the employee will be placed on leave without pay and automatically returned to employment in March 2027.
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch break.
- During spring fire season, work hours change to 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Overtime may be required during fire season and as operationally necessary.
- Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
- Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license. - Conditions of Employment:
This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL).

- A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
