Fleet Manager
Boscov's Department Store is looking for a Fleet Manager based in Reading, PA to lead our 24/5 private fleet. You'll oversee delivery to our 51 stores, line-hauls, and a growing backhaul operation, while keeping the whole operation safe, compliant, and on budget. Our fleet is a local fleet where drivers are in day cabs and work Monday through Friday. This role calls for strong leadership, sharp decision-making, and the ability to work across corporate divisions and locations to hit specific goals.
You'll need at least 3 years of solid managerial experience in transportation or fleet management, plus the ability to hire, retain, and lead a fleet of drivers and supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversight of 24-hr private fleet, including delivery to our 51 stores, line-hauls, and a growing backhaul operation
- Monitor driver safety performance and ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other laws and policies.
- Work with operations/distribution to ensure adequate fleet hours are available for daily volume variations, seasonal surges and ad hoc needs
- Manage equipment resources including yard trucks, straight trucks, semi cabs, and more than 600 trailers.
- Stay familiar with the transportation supplier market and assess outsourcing options, including fleet leasing and fleet programs such as maintenance and accident management
- Develop and manage daily operational metrics to improve on-time performance, efficiency, equipment utilization, and profitability; track monthly performance against forecast
- Perform Fleet Safety role working with the Director of Transportation to lead and enforce all fleet safety policies, programs, and reviews.
- Create and establish fleet policies and procedures (vehicle assignment, replacement cycles, accident reporting) and edit/update existing policy as needed
- Own driver hiring, training and development; maintain and manage Driver Qualification files
- Establish specific yearly measurable goals and objectives; formulate action plans to ensure priorities are achieved
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years experience in fleet roles with supervisory or management experience
- Extensive knowledge of DOT, HOS and OSHA regulations; ability to operate in compliance with company, state and federal transportation regulations
- Strong written and verbal skills to communicate effectively with drivers, support staff, and the senior management team
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a team environment
- Bilingual preferred
