A Linesperson is at the heart of our network, helping us to power change through maintaining and upgrading the electricity network.
SSEN are currently looking for a Lines persons Trainee, upskilling to Lines persons to join our team. This is an opportunity to develop an exciting career and further authorisations within SSEN.
Lines persons ProgrammeThe programme lasts 18 to 24 months, starting with an initial course at our training school before moving on to hands‑on experience with an experienced Lines persons team. During this time, you’ll build a portfolio of work to gain authorisations for network operations. The training combines technical, academic, and practical learning, allowing you to earn while you learn and work toward a nationally recognised qualification.
By the end of the programme, you’ll have gained valuable skills, on‑job experience, and an industry‑recognised qualification, opening doors to a rewarding career in the energy sector and contributing to net zero. The role is demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather, responding quickly to emergencies, and being available for out‑of‑hours duties, including storm response. Whether you’re changing careers or seeking growth in a fast‑expanding industry, this programme offers a solid foundation for success.
Youwill
- Undertake work on our overhead electricity network, responding to faults, repairing and/or replacing as required.
- Construct new, upgrade existing and install bespoke solutions on the LV, 11kV and 33kV network.
- Be responsible for the safety of yourself and colleagues, acting as an ambassador for a strong safety culture in everything you do.
- Act as a strong ambassador for SSE Power Distribution, providing excellent customer service with a flexible approach when called upon for fault conditions.
- Work on poles and towers within our network.
- A natural ability to build relationships with customers, stakeholders and members of the public.
- Experience of working at height and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all seasons.
- A thirst for knowledge and training, and be able to pick up new skills quickly, working with others within a team to achieve common goals and adjusting your behaviour to reflect the diversity of our workforce and customer base.
- A strong focus on Health & Safety and will adhere to our company motto "if it's not safe, we don't do it."
- An ability to use your initiative and plan to make sure that you have the proper equipment for the job at hand and be resilient to the continual changes within our sector and always focussed on delivering great results.
- A flexible approach to work and understand the need to complete tasks effectively, to a high standard of quality whilst observing the highest levels of health and safety adherence always.
Due to the nature of the role, there could be overnight stays required and it is essential that you have a full driving licence.
