Role DescriptionThis full-time on-site role is based in and around the Home Counties. We also require skilled personnel to work on site at other locations in the UK eg Stratford-upon-Avon. We are looking for a skilled carpenter joiner to work primarily on historic timber structures. Daily tasks include undertaking precise carpentry and joinery work, carrying out repairs and reconstructions to timber frames, and fitting and finishing structural and decorative elements to heritage standards.
The role involves interpreting drawings and specifications, using hand and power tools safely and efficiently, and collaborating with other craftspeople and consultants on conservation projects. The successful candidate will maintain high standards of workmanship, follow site health and safety protocols, and contribute to the accurate preservation and reconstruction of historic buildings.
- Strong carpentry skills with experience in traditional and modern techniques.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Experience in framing and structural timber work, particularly in heritage or conservation contexts.
- Ability to carry out finish carpentry to a high standard, including detailed joinery and fitting.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in carpentry/joinery, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of historic building methods, materials, and conservation best practices is highly beneficial.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Good communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a site-based team.
- Physical ability to perform manual work safely, including working at height and handling materials.
