  • Overtime paid at 1.5x your hourly rate
  • 42.5-hour working week, Monday to Friday
  • No weekend working

  • Home-to-site working, with hours starting and finishing from home when travelling directly to customer sites
  • Depot-based starts when travelling to the depot
  • Varied workload covering servicing, diagnostics, repairs, overhauls and machinery rebuilds
  • Opportunity to work autonomously while benefiting from team and depot support
The Role
- Field Service Engineer

Covering a 70-mile radius of Swindon, you'll provide technical support to customers across Bristol, Bath, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and Exeter, with minimal travel into Wales.

You’ll be responsible for keeping customer machinery operating safely, efficiently and reliably, delivering high-quality maintenance, responsive breakdown support and effective engineering solutions in the field.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, routine servicing and reactive breakdown repairs on excavators, telehandlers and associated heavy plant machinery
  • Undertaking everything from routine oil changes and component replacements to major engine overhauls, full machine rebuilds and re-sprays
  • Performing advanced fault finding, hydraulic diagnostics and mechanical repairs to minimise downtime and maximise machine availability
  • Diagnosing and repairing faults across heavy diesel engines, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems
  • Completing hydraulic system repairs, component overhauls and performance troubleshooting
  • Undertaking welding, fabrication and structural repair work as required
  • Carrying out 12-month Thorough Examinations and structural safety inspections on excavators, telehandlers and associated plant equipment
  • Identifying defects, assessing structural condition and ensuring machinery meets applicable safety and inspection requirements
  • Attending customer sites to deliver efficient breakdown response, technical support and first-time fixes wherever possible
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, health and safety, customer service and equipment reliability
What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with engineers who have a strong practical background in heavy plant, construction machinery or similar mobile equipment.

  • Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer, Plant Fitter, Heavy Plant Engineer or Mobile Plant Mechanic
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in heavy diesel engines, hydraulic systems and mechanical engineering
  • Experience with complex fault finding, diagnostics, component replacement and major overhauls
  • Welding and fabrication skills, with the ability to undertake structural repairs
  • Experience carrying out Thorough Examinations and structural safety inspections
  • Knowledge of pneumatic and electrical systems
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Your own tools and the ability to work independently in a field-based environment
  • NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Plant Maintenance, Heavy Vehicle Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous, but is not essential

We're looking for a proactive, solutions-focused engineer who takes pride in delivering quality repairs, maximising uptime and providing a professional service to customers.
