Senior Accountant CPG, Retail or Wholesale

Senior Accountant – Vaco by Highspring has a client near Red Bank, NJ seeking a Senior Accountant with CPG, retail or wholesale experience to work onsite 4 days a week.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, preparation and analysis of financial statements, and maintenance of internal controls to be within US GAAP and company policies. They will also coordinate audits, be involved in process improvement initiatives and leverage technology to streamline accounting operations and enhance efficiency.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required (Accounting major strongly preferred). MBA is a plus.
• Minimum 6+ years of progressive experience in accounting/finance; full-cycle accounting experience is a plus.
• Advanced Excel
• Solid understanding of US GAAP and standard accounting practices; knowledge of general ledger accounting software and consolidation systems.
• Experience in wholesale distribution, apparel, retail, or consumer goods industry is highly preferred.
• CPA certification and/or prior public accounting (audit) experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with business intelligence or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) is a plus.
• Familiarity with ERP and financial systems relevant to apparel/wholesale operations (e.g., Blue Cherry or similar merchandising/ERP system).
• Experience with Financial Planning/Reporting tools (eg Planful or Hyperion) is highly desirable.

• Financial Close Management
  :
  Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes – including preparing and reviewing journal entries, accruals, account adjustments, and balance sheet reconciliations – to ensure timely and accurate closing of the general ledger.
• Financial Statement Preparation & Analysis
  :
  Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow) in accordance with US GAAP, and perform detailed variance analysis to explain significant fluctuations in results. Present financial insights and reports to finance leadership during monthly update meetings, communicating key findings effectively.
• Account Reconciliations & Analysis
  :
  Perform detailed account reconciliations for key balance sheet and income statement accounts, research financial data and provide management with meaningful analytical reports to explain trends and variances.
• Technical Accounting
  :
  Research and apply technical accounting guidance for complex transactions or new accounting standards.
• Internal Controls & Compliance
  :
  Adhere to, enhance and monitor internal control procedures and corporate financial policies, proactively addressing and resolving any weaknesses.
• Audit Coordination & Support
  :
  Coordinate and prepare for internal and external audits, including year-end financial audits and periodic field exams. Compile audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Process Improvement & Systems Optimization
  :
  Identify opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes (e.g., report generation, data consolidation) by leveraging technology. Lead or participate in finance process improvement initiatives.

Salary range: $90,000–$100,000. Eligible for discretionary bonuses and participation in medical, dental, vision benefits, and 401(k) retirement plan.
